3 Things I Don’t Love About Disney Land

This might not be a popular post so I’ll start by saying I do love Disney Land but there are some thing that really make me sad there! I’ve been fortunate to have visited Disney World several times and having been there, it kinda ruins some parts of Disney Land.

I'm a huge Disney fan but there's a few things I don't love about Disney Land...especially after visiting Disney World!

Last week my hubby and I took off to California for our anniversary trip and we kicked it off at Disney Land. We were there last in December 2013 and spent 2 days at both parks. This year we decided to just go for 1 day and only go to Disney Land – I couldn’t justify the extra $120 to park hop just for one day.

So without further ado, here are the things that I do not love about Disney Land…

1. They don’t have Magic Bands

Our last 3 trips to Disney World included Magic Bands and I didn’t realize how spoiled we were with those! If you haven’t used them before, Magic Bands hold EVERYTHING – park tickets, fast passes, dining reservations, hotel keys, and you can set them up with your credit card for {almost} any purchase within the park.

This is from our first year with the Magic Bands and we were so excited to use them for everything!

Disney Land is still kicking it old school with paper tickets, paper fast passes, and credit cards or cash to make purchases. I was constantly panicked that we were going to drop a ticket or fast pass (although with Disney’s customer service I’m sure they take care of you when that happens). I was happy that one of the ride operators let me keep one of my paper fast passes as my friend wants some paper items for her travel book.

I know the reason they haven’t done Magic Bands there is likely due to the cost. I can only imagine how much it costs to add those scanners for every ride, store, restaurant and kiosk plus the cost of the bands themselves. I get it’s a tougher sell for Disney Land…World it makes more sense given the volume of people who book vacations and have everything Disney during their stay.

That being said, I want a Magic Band for every day life so that I never have to take out my wallet or keys again. That’s part of the magic of the bands – ultimate convenience for lazy people like myself!! I remember getting back from Disney World last year and wanting Chipotle to scan my Magic Band instead of getting out my credit card. In case you are wondering, Chipotle has not started accepting Magic Bands yet.

2. The castle is tiny.

Some people might get angry about this one but I’m sorry – the castle is so disappointing!! It reminds me more of a 2 story gingerbread house than a castle. I’ve talked to a few people about my frustration with this and the response I’ve gotten is that Disney Land has Sleeping Beauty’s castle while Disney World has Cinderella’s castle. Sleep Beauty got gypped is all I can say!

3. They don’t have fireworks every night.

This was probably the most disappointing thing about our visit. Disney Land only has fireworks on the weekend. They did have the Electric Light Parade which is always fun to watch but there’s nothing quite like fireworks at Disney!

My most favorite way to end a day at Disney and quite possibly some of the moments that I’ve been most happy in my life are enjoying ice cream and watching fireworks at Disney. I kept checking the website before our trip to see what time fireworks were and didn’t see any times. When we arrived, the flyer said they are only on Friday and Saturday nights.

I will be fair that we didn’t visit California Adventure and I know they had the nighttime show on that side. We saw the Christmas one there when we visited last time and loved it! I’m sure I’d be able to let go of the fireworks more if we had gone to that.

Even though I wasn’t in love with these things we still had an amazing time! I was so excited we were there for Hyperspace Mountain and wish that was there all the time. I’ll be sharing my Disney Land favorites soon and those far outweigh my dislikes!

Is there anything else you don’t love about Disney Land or Disney World?
